Advancing Sustainability: Terenure Enterprise Centre's Ongoing Journey

As we transition into the colder months, it's crucial that we address our collective responsibility to reduce our carbon footprint and make strides towards a more sustainable Terenure Enterprise Centre.

Our ongoing sustainability journey is marked by dedicated efforts to conserve water and reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, particularly gas. These initiatives reflect our commitment to the wellbeing of our community and the planet we share. To enhance transparency and awareness, take a look at our sustainability objectives and strategies below. We invite you to review our efforts and share your thoughts.

Water Conservation: A Pledge to Preserve

Current Water Usage: 32,000 litres per month (on average)

Our Goal: To reduce water usage to 20,000 litres per month by December 2023

Our Approach:

  • Installing Aerators and Push-Down Fixtures on Taps: We've installed aerators and push-down fixtures on taps throughout our facility. These installations regulate water flow, encouraging responsible usage and minimising wastage.

  • Introducing Water Displacement Devices in Toilets: By incorporating water displacement devices in our toilets, we're optimising water consumption with every flush, contributing to significant water savings.

  • Monthly Monitoring of Usage: Monitoring water consumption on a monthly basis is crucial for understanding trends and identifying areas where improvements can be made.

  • Full Bathroom Retrofit for Water Conservation: Our plan includes a complete bathroom retrofit with water-conserving technology. This overhaul will drastically reduce water consumption within our facility.

Reducing Gas Usage: Embracing Sustainable Heating

Annual Gas Emissions: 19.61 tonnes CO2e

Our Goal: Reduce emissions by 25% to 14.70 tonnes CO2e by October 2024

Our Approach:

  • Running Gas Heating System Efficiently: We're implementing best practices to ensure our gas heating system operates at peak efficiency, minimising wastage and optimising performance.

  • Annual Servicing of the Heating System: Regular servicing of our heating system ensures its continued efficiency and effectiveness, reducing unnecessary gas consumption.

  • Transitioning to Renewable Heating Sources: As part of our long-term vision, we are actively exploring the possibility of replacing our current heating system with a renewable, eco-friendly source of heating.
